We shoulda named her Brooke…

…’cuz she sure does babble!

In all seriousness, Colin and I are just blown away every day by the things that Annie does and says. At last count (a week or so ago), she had over 40 words that she said unprompted and correctly. It’s definitely more than that now, and she’s added her first verb (“read”–is she my kid or what?) and another sign (“again”) to the mix as well. Her favorite words seem to be prepositions, though: up, down, and outside. The big favorite, though, is “that.” Everything needs a label, and “dat” is the best way to convey that need. She’s such a parrot, too, and she’s starting to anticipate and react to things in the books she reads. This evening we were reading one of Mercer Mayer’s “Little Monster” books, and there’s a picture where Little Monster is yelling in frustration at his little sister. Annie turned the page, looked at the picture as I read, and pointed to it and went “AAAAAAAAAAIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!” It was hilarious. We got about two more pages forward in the book, then she turned back to the screaming page and repeated the process. She’s also at the point where she wants to read the same books over and over and over and over and over and over and over… yeah. I think I read That’s Not My Monkey at least a dozen times in a row the other day.

Signing-wise, she’s up to… four, I think: more, again, done, and please. It’s this last that she’s really good at and usually uses unprompted, because she’s figured out that using it is a good way to get what she wants. Sometimes she’ll say “peez” to go along with it, and sometimes she’ll sign it and verbalize what she wants simultaneously. Fun stuff. We’re working on thank you, and she’s said and signed it a couple of times, but doesn’t really get it yet. She also really likes to sing (again, that’s my kid!) and can fill in the words for a couple of songs (including the oft-mentioned Bob song). She seems to find the Beatles’ “Hello Goodbye” hilarious, and if you sing the chorus (“you say goodbye and I say hello/hello hello”), she’ll repeat “he’woh he’woh.” SOOOO cute. She can also fill in the animal sounds in one of her favorite books, which I really need to get video of sometime, because it’s hilarious to watch her face as she lets out with a “MEEowwwww!”

She’s really seriously thinking about this walking thing, now, too. She often lets go of what she’s holding on and stands, checking out the world. But moving the feet isn’t happening yet, and if you’re holding her hands and try to force the issue, she becomes pretty darned upset. She’s also turning into quite the little swimmer; last time we were at the Y, she held onto my shoulders (with me only supporting her tummy with one hand) and kicked while we moved across the pool several times. She still hasn’t gotten over trying to drink the pool; it doesn’t matter where/how I hold her, she has to try to take a taste whenever we’re in there, and then she comes up spluttering. Silly kid.

Stats-wise, her 1-year WBV was this past Tuesday, and she weighed in at 8lbs 9oz (5th percentile) and 28.3″ (25th percentile). Head size was 80th percentile; maybe it’s all those words she’s storing up. Current favorite foods are Cuties oranges (they’re either mandarins or satsumas, I’m not sure) and kiwi fruit. Clothes-wise, she’s in 9-12 month clothes, depending on brand.

Hmm. I think that’s all for now. I’m going to hit the sack, but we’ve gotten some really cute pictures the past few days (well, okay, Colin has gotten some really cute pictures) and I’ll try to get a picture post up at some point.

Maybe if I don’t write about it, it didn’t happen?

I think I’ve been putting off writing this with the thought that if I don’t write it, then it didn’t happen.  But as Annie turns 13 months on Wednesday, I should really get her one-year-old post up.  I wrote most of this right around her birthday.

Stats as of 10/25:

* No height or weight data recently.  Her 1 year WBV is tomorrow (11/24), so we’ll get all that then.  My vote is 19lbs and 28.5”.
* Wears anywhere between a six month to 12 month size, depending on brand [the 12s were pretty big at that point, but she’s grown into them more now at almost 13 months].  Just (mid-October) moved up to a size M diaper cover because the smalls were too short in the rise.  The mediums are hilariously big, though.
* Has her top two front teeth now, as well as the two on the bottom.  The ones on either side of her top teeth look like they’ll be making an appearance any day [that was optimism—we still haven’t seen them almost a month later].  And molars are making her miserable, but they’re not through yet either.
* Goes to bed in her crib between 7:00 and 8.
* Is up for the day between 6 and 7.
* Takes one or two naps that total anything from one to three hours.  Those one-hour-nap days are pretty miserable by about 5pm.  :-p
* Really wants to walk, but can’t quite get up the confidence to let go of our hands.
* Is into putting things into containers and taking them out again.
* Talks A LOT.  We think she’s up to around 15-20 words she says unprompted.  Off the top of my head: cat, kitty, dog, ball, bottle, yum, dada, mama, yeah, no, baby, binky, more, that, Grady, water, flower, night-night, block, Bob, butt (refers to the thing you sit on or a diaper), light, down, boom… I know there’s more, but I can’t think of them [update on verbal in next post!]
* Favorite toys are things that make noise (shakers, her lap piano, anything she can drum on) and BOOKS! She will sit for long stretches of time (over 10 minutes!) going from book to book to book, turning pages and looking at pictures, and even when we’re just going to the store, must have a book on hand, just in case the need arises. She’s her Mommy’s girl! :-D
* Favorite books are Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You See?, Carry Me, and Quiet Time with Cassat
* Current favorite non-fruit foods are beans and peas, turkey kielbasa, and gyoza.
* Likes to try to chase the oh-so-patient cat.
* Cruises more than competently but still doesn’t see a future in the walking independently
* Can insert “Bob” in the appropriate places in the Bob song and tell you what a cow, sheep, pig, cat, and dog say. And sometimes a chicken.
* Is getting to be a Big Girl!

Blast from the Past…

If you head over to pix.psychokitty.org, you’ll get a random image on any page you go to.  Here are a couple that popped up and caught my eye.

Talking!

Note her response when you say “Yankees.” We’re trying to raise her right, what can I say?
